Pennsylvania principal evaluations have some unique nuances that differentiate it from other evaluation types. The Principal's Annual Goals and Component Selection (Step 1) is outlined here.
ROLE: Principal Evaluator
NAVIGATION PATH: Dashboard > Step 1 (including 1.a, 1.b, & 1.c)
After logging into your account, select the principal you will be evaluating from the drop-down menu, then click on Step 1 of the dashboard.
In Step 1.a, the principal will enter Performance Goals with your guidance and in adherence of district initiatives.
After finishing Step 1.a, the principal's portion of Step 1 is technically complete. Please consult with the principal regarding the Select Components (Step 1.b) and Weights and Ranges (Step 1.c) portions. You have the ability to edit the fields on these pages, but the principal may only view them. Suggested selections/values will be pre-populated but can be customized by you.
On Step 1.b, all components for each domain will be selected by default. If desired, you may customize which components the principal will be evaluated on. Uncheck the desired boxes to deselect the components you do not wish to be included in the principal's evaluation. Each of the four domains must include at least one component, as per the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).
On Step 1.c, the suggested domain weights are set at 25 percent each by default and the suggested goal weights are split equally (i.e., 50 percent each if there are two, 25 percent each if there are four, etc.). If desired, you may modify the desired weight of each domain and each performance goal for the principal. Simply type the desired value(s) into the box(es) provided (totals must equal 100 percent). As mandated by PDE, each domain should be weighted between 10 and 30 percent.
The Building Level Data portion of the evaluation is not addressed until Step 3 of the process, and you will be tasked with selecting the appropriate circumstance. Please see the Step 3 support guide for further details.
NOTE: If you are evaluating a professional employee who has transferred from one building to another within your LEA, you may use a substitute measure in lieu of Building Level Data for the first two school years of the new location assignment. Prior to administering the evaluation in the new location assignment, you and the principal (according to your LEA's specifications) must agree on the substitute measure(s) and the reallocation of the 10% weighting for calculating the final performance rating.
The Cut Score Ranges table displays the translation of numeric ranges (Earned Points) to their correlating Performance Ratings. You may adjust these ranges if necessary by typing in the desired value.
The Desired Weighting for Final Rating table illustrates the state-mandated weighting of each overall portion of the principal evaluation.
Once you and the principal have reviewed all portions of Step 1 together, the principal will finalize Step 1 by clicking the Mark Complete button on the dashboard.
Please see the Pennsylvania Principal Evaluation: Step 2 support guide for the next set of steps.
