Welcome, Board Presidents and Trusted Agents! This guide has been designed to support you in completing your Board Self-Evaluation in SuperEval using our new Goals-First workflow.
- Step 1: Annual School Board Objectives and Competency Selection
- Step 2: Board Self-Evaluation
- Step 3: Consolidated Board Evaluation Data
If you are a Board Member (non-President) seeking guidance on completing the evaluation, be sure to review the Board Self-Evaluation: Board Member Guide.
Step 1: Annual School Board Objectives and Competency Selection
In Step 1, as the Board President, you are responsible for entering the board’s annual goals and selecting the professional practices (competencies) the board will use for the self-evaluation. While creating goals and alignment decisions are often a collaborative effort involving the full board, entering this information into SuperEval can only be completed by the Board President or their Trusted Agent.
Once the goals are decided and the professional practices are selected, click on Step 1: Annual School Board Objectives and Competency Selection.
Enter the Title and Body of the first goal into the provided box. If you need assistance in crafting these, there is a template button in the bottom left, as well as an examples button.
If you have more goals to enter, press the +Add button in the top right corner of the screen and repeat the previous step for each remaining goal.
The next action, which is entirely optional, is aligning each goal to a professional practice(s) in the evaluation rubric. The alignment demonstrates how these goals pertain to the criteria that the board is evaluating itself on. Click the Alignment button at the bottom left of the goal and select the professional practice(s) that the goal aligns with by checking the applicable boxes. Repeat this process for each goal.
Once each goal has been entered, click on 1.b SELECT PROFESSIONAL PRACTICES at the top of the screen.
Use the checkboxes to select which professional practices you want to be included in the evaluation. The full domains also have check boxes if you wish to deselect an entire domain.
When the domain and professional practice selection is complete, click on 1.c WEIGHTS & RANGES.
Many districts use the suggested weights, but you can edit them to suit your needs. If you are editing them, please be sure that the total listed on screen is 100%, so that it does not negatively impact the score tabulation that occurs toward the end of the evaluation. If your district has specific needs for CUT score ranges, you can enter them here as well.
Once you are done with all these tasks in Step 1, click the Dashboard button in the navigation menu at the top right corner of your screen and press Mark Complete on Step 1.
Step 2: Board Self-Evaluation
Step 2 is when all board members, including the Board President, fill out their own evaluation of the board. Click on Board Self-Evaluation to begin.
Click the green Start Evaluation button to begin.
Answer each available response and be sure to leave comments and evidence files with each response, where relevant. If you see the text "(required for 100% completion)" next to a text response field, it will be required for the evaluation to show 100% completion. The evaluation showing less than 100% complete will not prevent you from completing the evaluation and will not negatively affect your scores.
Once everyone has completed their evaluation, go to the Dashboard and click Mark Complete on Step 2.
Step 3: Consolidated Board Evaluation Data
To begin the final step, click on Step 3: Consolidated Board Evaluation Data
Once the consolidated evaluation is generated, you can click the orange "Edit Board Consolidated Evaluation" and make changes to the final deliverable evaluation so that it properly reflects the board's views. We often refer to this as "Speaking with One Voice".
Lastly, if there are any final comments that the board would like to be included on the final evaluation summary document, scroll down and enter them in the box titled Comments by the Board (Appears on Final Evaluation).
Once you are happy with the final evaluation, return to your Dashboard and click the Mark Complete button on Step 3.
To generate a summary document of the evaluation, click the View Summary Page button at the bottom of your dashboard. To generate a zip file containing all evaluation components (including uploaded files), click the Export Final Evaluation button and then click it again to begin downloading the file.
